FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No April Foolin’!Racing Enthusiasts Form Charitable Organization, Announce MeetingMembers race lawn mowers for charity!March 19, 2004 - Saugerties, NY - The Hudson Valley Lawn Mower Racing Association [HVLMRA] announced today that their first annual meeting will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 (April Fool’s Day), 7:00 p.m. at the Frank D. Greco Multi-Purpose Building at the corner of Market and Robinson Streets, in the Village of Saugerties, New York. No fooling! The purpose of the meeting is to ratify the organizational by-laws, elect one board member, set dates for additional meetings, assign committees and to conduct other business that the board deems necessary. The meeting is open to the public. The HVLMRA is a community of like-minded people who enjoy participatory motor sports. A family-oriented, inclusive group that simply loves getting out and racing. "The fact that we can raise funds for good causes while pursuing our passion makes it that much more rewarding," said Kendall Stanley, the organization's President and founder. Stanley adds, “there is certain poetry in having our first official meeting on April 1st, since lawn mower racing began on April 1, 1991 in the U.S. The HVLMRA is one of 20 sanctioned Local Chapters of the Glenview, Illinois-based United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA). From the Badlands of North Dakota to the hills of Tennessee. From Alabama’s Gulf Coast to the heart of Texas, "America’s Fastest Mowing Sport” is kicking grass across the U.S.A., including New York’s Hudson Valley from New York City to Albany. USLMRA Local Chapter lawn mower racing is part of the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series, which features 15 national points races across the country each year. The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series features riding lawn mowers racing in four road track classes including Stock (10 mph), IMOW (25 mph), Prepared (50 mph) and Factory Experimental (60 mph). All cutting blades are removed for safety. There is no purse money as racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights. Each season Sod Warriors from coast to coast load up their mowers, drive to Local Chapter events, and race. This is especially important for Turf Titans such as Geronimow, Sodzilla, Mr. Mowjangles, Turfinator, Ace of Blades and the Lawn Ranger who take their sport seriously, but with a healthy dose of humor. “Lawn mower racing is spreading like untreated crab grass,” quipped Stanley. “We are truly America’s grass roots motorsport and have been organizing races across the country for 13 years. For fun-loving motorsports enthusiasts, we say the mow the merrier!” The HVLMRA is also a unique and valuable entertainment asset. They are available for Fairs, Festivals, Bazaars, Fundraising Events, Promotional Events, Arena Shows, Race Tracks and other venues. Lawn mower racing is a certain draw and can enhance your planned event or serve as a standalone event. The HVLMRA is a not-for-profit, philanthropic organization and gives 100% of all profits to not-for-profit, community-based or charitable organizations. The HVLMRA primarily exists to provide a safe forum for members, their family and friends to pursue their love of racing. Equally as important is the desire to help those who are less fortunate. By hosting races and events, the HVLMRA raises funds that have helped a wide variety of organizations, from a local fire department to ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease. Sponsors include STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, 104+ Octane Boost, HEET GasLine Antifreeze, No Leak Automotive Sealers, Carolina Footwear and Double-H Boots. STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing has been featured on ESPN2, the Discovery Channel, ABC-TV's Home Improvement, CNN, Inside Edition, CBS Early Show, The Disney Channel, the Paul Harvey Radio Network, and in The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, the Wall Street Journal and Autoweek.
