Admission is $5, under 12 is free. The event includes food and merchandise vendors, a beer garden, and children’s activities.
“We’re looking forward to another great event,” said Kendall Stanley, local
race director and member of the Kiskatom Volunteer Fire Department. “STA-BIL
lawn mower racing is very popular across the country, and especially big here in
New York with the Hudson Valley Lawn Mower Racing Association. We’ll surely be
on the cutting edge!” Racers in the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series travel across the
country each season competing for points, trophies, glory and bragging rights.
There are no cash prizes in lawn mower racing. A sense of humor is not required,
but is strongly encouraged. Racers from more than 15 states are expected to
compete including The Turfinator, Sodzilla, Blading Saddles, Mowin For Broke and
Ace of Blades. The 3rd Annual STA-BIL Hudson Valley Regional, Saturday, July 20th is the
fourth STA-BIL Lawn Mower Race event ever held in the Hudson Valley. “We’re so
hooked on lawn mower racing that we formed a local chapter – the Hudson Valley
Lawn Mower Racing Association,” according to Stanley, who is also the president
of the HVLMRA. “This year we not only have the big race to benefit the fire
department, but we’re adding a weekly race schedule for local sod warriors to
race all season long.” Rocky Claro, Kiskatom Fire Department’s Chief adds, “Our
signature race this year will once again be the ‘Kiskatom Kup Challenge,’ our
annual competition for Fire Departments. The winner will have their department
name entered on the cup, will keep the cup for the year, and will have to defend
the cup the following year. Thanks to Bobby Abrahamsen, Kiskatom is the
defending champion.” “We encourage the public to come out and race," added Stanley. “Anyone 16
years or older can become a lawn mower racer. We’ll find a place for you. If you
ever thought about racing and experiencing the thrill of speed and glory, then
come out and join us. We encourage local participation, and although racers from
across the country will be competing, we have plenty of room for local sod
warriors. We know if you see the race on July 20th, you’ll want to race next
year. The mow, the merrier!” The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series has been featured on the TV sitcom "Home Improvement," The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Arizona Republic, Sports Illustrated, FOXnews.com, USA Today, CBS This Morning, The Paul Harvey Radio Network, WGY Clear Channel Radio, AutoWeek, Modern Maturity and TNN Friday Night Motor Madness.
