HVLMRA Organizational MeetingMinutes The April 1, 2004 organizational meeting of the Hudson Valley Lawn Mower Racing Association [HVLMRA] was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by President Kendall Stanley. The meeting was held at the Frank Greco Multi-Purpose Building in Saugerties, NY. Seven (7) members were present. President Stanley led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance In his Welcoming Address, President Stanley explained that he was overburdened in his efforts running the HVLMRA alone. The reason for calling the meeting and forming a "true" association was to relieve him of some of the workload. The USLMRA also now requires Local Chapters to be the point of contact in lieu of previously dealing direct with the host and/or charitable organization. The basic mission of the HVLRMA was described as an organization whose primary goal is to raise funds for charitable organizations while fostering a safe environment for members to enjoy racing lawnmowers. The HVLMRA will look into gaining NYS Non-Profit Organization status. The HVLRMA website is up and running and resides at www.hvlmra.org. President Stanley has developed this site and paid for hosting and other related expenses out-of-pocket. He would hope as association funds become available, he would be able to recoup these expenses. The HVLMRA has completed contract paperwork with the Greene County Chamber of Commerce for the 7/31/04 Points Race in East Durham, NY at the Greene County Fair. Contract is for $4,500.00 with $2,000.00 going to the Kiskatom Fire Department as our charitable contribution. After expenses, a projected balance of $500.00 will go to the HVLMRA. The transponders are not included in the above figures. The Mid Atlantic LMRA started just over a year ago and is now thriving and will host their first National Race on 7/24/04. The Cutting Edge Yearbook is being published and will have a HVLMRA article in it this year. The HVLMRA will receive 100 copies for distribution. It was discussed and decided not to order additional copies or to purchase an ad at this time. The 2004 Association Charter with the USLMRA was signed in Late 2003 by President Stanley. This is an Annual Agreement maintaining the HVLMRA as a local chapter of the USLMRA. Several newspaper articles have been generated lately from a HVLMRA press release and interviews including recent articles in the Saugerties Post Star and the Saugerties Times. The NBC Today Show also featured Lawn Mower Racing on the first day of Spring 2004. This was great publicity for our sport. President Stanley also mentioned the Movie Theater Release of "The Prince and Me" this week. This movie features some good Lawn Mower Racing and is additional good publicity. Approximately 5 minutes of USLMRA racing is included. The financial report is on file with the president and was made available for review to all members. There were no committee reports. There was no unfinished business. A Track Committee will need to be formed to locate and secure a "home" track. Several locations were discussed as possibilities. Frank Knapp was appointed "Track Committee Chair." We will need to push for increasing our membership. As of the meeting date, only 3 members of the HVLMRA were registered with the USLMRA. Applications can be submitted directly to the HVLMRA with a $35.00 membership fee which includes membership in the USLMRA. A total of $5.00 of this will go to the HVLMRA. Todd Bernier was appointed as "Membership Committee Chair." A Sponsorship Chair and Committee are needed, as well as, a Competition Director to handle all things "Racing." Neither were appointed at this meeting. We will need to look into aligning ourselves with sponsors and "benefits partners." Possible additional race dates were discussed with a plan for possibly one (1) Local Chapter Race this summer. Dates will be determined by venue schedule and availability. Two (2) proposed HVLMRA logos were reviewed and a unanimous decision was made to select Proposal #3 which included a racer on a mower with the mountain back drop. A 50/50 raffle was held with $32.00 collected. Paul Dickinger drew Kendall Stanley as the winner of $16.00 with $16.00 going to the HVLMRA. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 7:00pm at the Frank Greco Building in Saugerties, NY. On a motion by Joe Affronti, seconded by Blake Garrison, it was decided to adjourn. Respectfully submitted, Blake G. Garrison 4/2/04 |
